St. Veronica Catholic School Values: Academic Excellence

We are committed to academic rigor and quality with relevant and evolving curriculum. We are dedicated to an educational climate that values creativity, intellectual exploration, discovery and an exchange of ideas.

ART IN ACTION

IMAGINATION MOVES THE MIND

Art in Action is a comprehensive visual art curriculum that is available to grades kindergarten through eighth grade. Students receive a solid foundation in drawing and painting techniques. Instruction includes information about great artists and their art from around the world and through the centuries.

Teachers and parents are trained in the art lessons by “Art in Action” staff. These lessons are then sought to the students and are aligned with National Visual Arts Standards and are easily integrated with other subjects, giving students additional opportunities to develop their critical thinking skills, expand their knowledge of various cultures, and build creative confidence.

ELOCUTION CONTEST

CLEAR AND EXPRESSIVE SPEECH

The Elocution Contest is a long standing tradition at St. Veronica School. Every student in every grade is required to memorize an age appropriate poem, speech, or prose. A classroom wide contest is held where each student performs in front of his or her classmates. The first three winners of each of those contests then moves on to a school-wide contest. These contestants perform before the administration, faculty, and students, with judges coming from Catholic high schools in the area. Students have memorized speeches from John F. Kennedy, Martin L. King, Jr., Abraham Lincoln, and poems from Shel Silverstein, Robert Frost, Maya Angelou, Emily Dickinson, and Henry W. Longfellow!

  • Vision and creativity – help develop new ideas

  • Confidence – achieve a higher level of confidence

  • Determination – students expand themselves in a comfortable environment

  • Inspiration – where dreams of the future are made.

ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS

COMPLIMENTING OUR ROBUST ACADEMICS

Students enjoy and are challenged by a variety of curriculum programs and extracurricular activities. All students are given lessons in Spanish, music history and music intrusions. M.U.S.E. (Musical Understanding through Sound Education) is available for those students interested in musical instrument training. Students have the opportunity to serve on the Student Council, participate in the Parish Peninsula Sports League, become altar servers, learn in the state-of-the-art science and mobile computer labs, join the Children’s Choir, and, as 8th graders, join the Cheer Squad. Students also prepare for and participate in a variety of academic contests such as writing contests, local and county Science Fairs, geography and spelling bees. They may serve as Safety Guards and help their fellow students a tutors.

All students become part of a school “Family” consisting of a student from each grade level, which remains fixed throughout their time at St. Veronica. These “families” participate in a variety of activities such as making Easter baskets for the homeless and sitting together at masses.

TECHNOLOGY

TECHNOLOGY IS BEST WHEN IT BRINGS PEOPLE TOGETHER

An exciting component of our technology curriculum is the introduction of coding at all grade levels. One aspect of this is students’ participation in the nationwide event called “Hour of Code” This activity is designed to demystify computer coding and encourage students of all ages to learn the basics. Code fuels our digital world, thus making coders the architects and builders of the digital age. It is a growing, essential element of 21st century digital learning.

We also have a dedicated Technology Coordinator who works with all grade levels and teachers to incorporate the use of technology into their classroom activities. Students learn how to use various software programs as well as receive instruction in online safety and awareness.

St. Veronica now has a SMART Board in every classroom. Teachers and students use the boards that are connected to computers in a variety of ways. Each teacher is committed to enhancing their book and paper curriculum with resources from the Internet. This allows for access to a much wider range of resources for all.
