David Collins and his family
David Collins is no stranger to SV. Not only is he an alumni, his family members are alumni as well as active parishioners in the SV community.
David attended St. Veronica for grades 1-8 (Kindergarten was not added until later). Brother Michael graduated in 1978, and his sister Marie graduated in 1981! Sister Patricia was the principal when David graduated in 1976, and he had many teachers that taught 8th grade. However, one of his favorite
teachers was 6th grade teacher Mrs. Miller. She was a teacher ahead of her time. In particular, in Math, students were able to test up into and skip ahead to the next section if they passed.
Attending the parish festival is one of David’s favorite memories. When he was a student, the entire festival was held in tents that covered the length of the school grounds, from the outside of the 1st grade classroom all the way to the cafeteria. School fathers would build the booths on the Wednesday and Thursday prior to the festival start. The games were the roulette-type games that still exist today! Other great memories of school included field trips to Muir Woods and Angel Island, as well as altar boy picnics at Blackberry Farms.
His years at SV have made a lasting impression on how to lead his life. It taught him how to treat people, and have respect for them. It taught him to find ways to reach out to people in the ways that God wants us to, and have meaningful relationships. David remains true to his SV roots – he is an active parishioner and a member of the Parish Council. Wife Maria serves as a Eucharistic Minister. Their children also attend have roots at SV. Eldest John attended CCD and played sports through SV, and graduated from El Camino High School in 2014. Middle daughter Hannah graduated with the SV class of 2011, attended Mercy, and is currently at Skyline. Youngest son Matthew just graduated two years ago and is currently a sophomore at Serra.
David has stayed local and calls SSF his home. He works for Kaiser Permanente in Redwood City, and wife Maria is a teacher at Our Lady of Mercy. In his spare time, he likes to spend time with his family, watching son Matthew play water polo for Serra. He enjoys basketball, bike riding, and is a huge Giants fan!
